A Bit About Tea Love

First and foremost, welcome to my blog! Tea Love was started in 2011 and while it might have had some ups, downs, and stagnant periods, it remained a place of love and peace for both author and reader. Together, we will explore all facets of the second-most popular drink in the world – tea.

Tea offers a kaleidoscope of topics, constantly evolving and offering new information and breakthroughs for us to explore together. It remains one of the most universal beverages, spanning across borders easily to be enjoyed by every citizen around the globe, though our customs surrounding them might be different. The health benefits are still being constantly explored. From potential cancer-prevention properties to even helping dental hygiene, the benefits of tea are endless.

2010 was a rough year to graduate from college. It was made even more complicated graduating with a degree in journalism – an industry that was, at the time, struggling to figure out how to maintain a profit while also staying relevant in a world gravitating towards hyperjournalism on free internet platforms. Throw into that mix an economy that was teetering like an impish child holding you precariously up in the air on a seesaw, waiting for the right moment to drop you in a cherry bomb, and I was in for a rough time.

Dutifully, I pounded the pavement while also working at my summer job full-time. By day, I was reporting to a modeling and talent agency for children, maintaining the office while working nine hours a day to make sure I could make student loan payments. By night, I was freelancing for local journalism websites and applying to major news outlets in hopes of getting my foot in the door.

Getting the interview was the easy part. Even acing the interview wasn’t that hard. It was finding a job that had the money to actually hire me, despite having posted on a job board that they were looking for new hires and despite asking for my desired salary upfront. Yet, I had quite a few times where I would get the call – “We want to hire you. We simply don’t have the budget.”

This went on for a taxing two years post-graduation. Finally, I found the perfect job – a medical journal in New York City. They were offering the right pay, and were highly interested in my calculated and “eagle-eye” ability. The culture was just right, and I would finally be able to move out of my parents’ house. Things were finally coming up Catherine.

Until they weren’t.

I didn’t get the job. They never told me why. Just that I didn’t get it, but they would keep my resume on file for future reference. It felt soul-crushing. I was trying everything within my power to ensure I would be the best fit. I was writing for a local hyperjournalism site that I hated. I was pushing the limits of my abilities at my full-time job to improve the office while adding to my resume. I had even banded together with a group of people I didn’t know to start a writing group. None of it was good enough. For whatever reason, I wasn’t qualified.

It was a timeless story that I know many share. Many of my friends are even still in this scenario – always the bridesmaid, never the bride for the perfect job. Instead of allowing myself to sink like I wanted to, I thought, “How can I be better? How can I show these people that I am the right fit?”

And thus, Tea Love was born.

This went from a humble blog on WordPress to keep my writing in shape to a platform where I could profess my love for my favorite drink while being hired to tell others about it. What was there to not love? I am now gainfully employed, but Tea Love still holds a special place in my heart.

That’s why, after years of this blog lying fallow, I have finally revisited it and plan to once again explore my favorite beverage.
